Colonial Villas Picture

This design, presented in four different sizes shows a typical house built at the turn of the century. It is most typical of Wellington houses where the steep hills made high narrow buildings appropriate. Thorndon, close to the centre of Wellington has several examples of houses in this style.

Colonial Cottage

This cottage was built in 1858 and is typical of the homes of the majority of early settlers who came out to New Zealand at that time. The cottage remained in the hands of the Wallis family, who had first built it, until 1977. It is now maintained by the Wellington City Council for the public to visit and is furnished as a typical pioneer home.

Worked in Tent Stitch, Straight Stitch and Twill Stitch on 18# mono canvas using STRAND unique mohair/wool thread. Size of stitched area 15x10cms (6x4ins). Design printed in colour on canvas. Chart of design included.

Waitangi Treaty House

The Treaty of Waitangi was signed in front of this house in the Bay of Islands on 6 Februrary 1840 by some Maori leaders and by Lt Govenor Hobson on behalf of the British Government.

Worked in Tent Stitch on 18# mono canvas using STRAND unique mohair/wool thread. Size of stitched area 15x10cms (6x4ins). Design printed in colour on canvas. Chart of design included.

Criterion Window, Napier

This design is from a window in the Criterion Hotel. The hotel was designed by Ernest Williams as part of Napier's reconstruction following the great earthquake of 1931. The window was designed by Douglas Pirie and features the Norfolk pines which are a feature of the shore landscape.

Yummies Milk Bar Window

Because so many of the buildings in Napier were rebuilt in the early 1930s (following the great earthquake) when Art Deco was popular, it has become the art deco centre of the South Pacific. This window from Yummies Milk Bar recalls the Greek origin of the Callinicos family which has always owned this building.
